Smolenice castle

It was built in the 14th century as the last of the guard castles near the Lesser Carpathian passes. At the end of the 18th century, the castle fell into disrepair and burned down at the beginning of the 19th century, leaving only ruins. At the beginning of the 20th century, its last owners, the Pálf family, began to build the current Smolenický castle on the castle ruins, which they completed only after 1945. The castle is open to the public throughout the year like this.

Molpir

The castle spread out  on the Molpir hill  approx  0.5 km from Smolenice  Nowadays, you can only find the remains of fortifications, dwellings, smelting furnaces, towers, fortified gates, sacrifices or water tanks carved into the rock. The location is one of the most important  archaeological sites of the early Iron Age  (Hallstatt) in the Central European region.  The road to the castle is easy  and all age groups can handle it.

Drina cave

It is the only accessible cave in western Slovakia. Compared to our other accessible caves, which are mostly dominated by more massive underground spaces, it is a system of narrower corridors, but with a magical drip decoration. You can get to the cave from the parking lot at the Jahodník recreation center, which is located 1 km from the village of Smolenice. From the parking lot you have to walk to the cave  1 km long forest trail  and an elevation of 100 m. Access takes about 20 minutes and the end of the path is quite steep with 100 steps. The cave is open to the public throughout the year   like this.

Vrch Záruby

It is the highest peak of the Malé Karpaty mountain range.  The 768 m above sea level Záruby hill offers  undemanding, very pleasant tourism  also suitable for families with children at any time of the year. The hike is not long, you should be able to do it there and back in about 5 hours. The ascent route mostly leads through a nice forest, only at the last ascent meters the forest road turns into rocky terrain. The peak itself, as it is open, is relatively still windy. Well, they will compensate you for adverse weather conditions  beautiful views of the surroundings . From the top, you can continue westward until you reach  the ruins of the medieval castle Ostrý Kamen .  Záruby hill can also be completed as part of a circular hike from Smolenice to Ostrý Kamen along the ridge and back through the Brezinky valley. Or across the entire Little Carpathians. However, if you only want to ascend to Záruby ,  good starting points are Smolenice (approx. 4 km) or the Buková reservoir (approx. 4 km).

Hlboca Valley

The valley is  a national nature reserve since 1995  with the highest degree of protection. The rarest types of plants grow on the rocky grassy edges of the valley, and the surrounding oak-hornbeam forests have become home to many species of animals. In addition to breathtaking geomorphological formations such as various rock cavities, giant pots and cliffs, here you can also admire  waterfall . It is often called the Occasional Waterfall because there is no water in it during the dry season. If you want to see it in its full beauty, we recommend a visit especially in spring or after heavy rains.
